Environment, Health & Safety Data: Baseline Year and Future Performance Targets

Published: December 2024
Reporting Period: 2024 (Baseline)

Overview

Safety First

Environment, Health & Safety (EH&S) is a top management priority for NDB and essential for enhancing our competitive advantage.

This report establishes our 2024 baseline for EH&S performance and sets ambitious targets for future operations. Our current metrics reflect R&D activities and office operations.

Looking ahead to production launch (targeted 2030), we are designing safety protocols, environmental controls, and performance monitoring systems that will meet or exceed industry best practices and international standards (ISO 14001, ISO 45001, IAEA guidelines).

Reporting Note: 2024 data represents our baseline year. Future reports will include comprehensive operational metrics as operations scale.

Future Performance

Operational EH&S Targets (2030-2035)

Ambitious but achievable targets for manufacturing operations, reflecting our commitment to industry-leading EH&S performance.

Health & Safety Targets

By 2033 (Year 3 of Operations):

  • TRIR <0.5: World-class safety performance
  • Zero fatalities: Absolute commitment to life preservation
  • 100% training compliance: Annual safety certification for all personnel
  • ISO 45001 certified: By Year 2 of operations (2032)

Radiation Safety Metrics:

  • Zero radiation exposure incidents: Strict ALARA principle enforcement
  • 100% containment: All radioactive materials safely enclosed
  • Real-time monitoring: Continuous radiation level surveillance
  • IAEA compliance: Full alignment with international nuclear safety standards

Environmental Targets

  • 100% renewable energy from Day 1
  • <10 kWh per unit energy intensity by 2033

Water:

  • 95% water recycling rate by 2032
  • <5L per unit water intensity by 2033

Waste:

  • <0.1% manufacturing waste to landfill
  • 99.9%+ hazardous waste recycled/treated

Compliance

Regulatory Compliance & Standards

IAEA
Framework Adopted

International Atomic Energy Agency

Nuclear safety and radiation protection standards for handling radioactive materials

ISO 14001
Target: 2031-2032

Environmental Management

International standard for environmental management systems

ISO 45001
Target: 2032

Occupational Health & Safety

International standard for OH&S management systems

NRC
Framework development

Nuclear Regulatory Commission

US regulatory compliance for nuclear materials handling and licensing

Compliance Framework Development

We are not yet subject to manufacturing-related regulatory requirements, and are proactively developing compliance frameworks to ensure seamless transition when operations commence.

All nuclear materials used in R&D are handled by licensed third-party facilities with appropriate permits and safety protocols. NDB does not currently possess radioactive materials on-site.

Culture

EH&S Management System

Our EH&S management system is built on continuous improvement, proactive risk management, and a culture of safety accountability.

Key Principles

  • Leadership Commitment

EH&S as a CEO-level priority with Board oversight

  • Risk-Based Approach

    Proactive hazard identification and mitigation

  • Employee Engagement

Safety culture where every employee is empowered to stop work

  • Continuous Improvement

Regular audits, KPI tracking, and corrective actions

  • Transparency

Public reporting of performance metrics and incidents
