Semiconductor & Materials Science Intern
About this position
NDB is seeking a Semiconductor & Materials Science Intern to support semiconductor device development and materials research for our nano diamond battery technology with focus on Silicon Carbide (SiC). This internship offers hands-on experience with semiconductor fabrication, materials characterization, and device testing. You will assist with semiconductor device fabrication and testing, support materials characterization using analytical techniques, help with SiC substrate preparation and processing, and conduct research on semiconductor materials and devices. This position provides exposure to semiconductor physics, materials science, and cleanroom processes. This is an exceptional opportunity for students interested in semiconductors or materials science to gain practical experience with wide bandgap semiconductors and advanced materials. You'll contribute to breakthrough energy conversion technology.
Requirements
- Currently pursuing Bachelor's or Master's degree in Materials Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field
- Completed coursework in semiconductor physics, materials science, or solid-state devices
- Strong academic record (3.0+ GPA preferred)
- Basic understanding of semiconductor device physics and fabrication
- Familiarity with materials characterization techniques preferred
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Attention to detail and ability to follow cleanroom protocols
- Excellent documentation and communication skills
Responsibilities
- Assist engineers with semiconductor device fabrication processes
- Support materials characterization using XRD, SEM, AFM, or spectroscopy
- Help with SiC substrate preparation and surface treatments
- Conduct electrical characterization and device testing
- Maintain laboratory notebooks and document experimental procedures
- Assist with cleanroom operations and equipment maintenance
- Research semiconductor materials and device innovations
- Prepare technical presentations on project findings
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior internship or research experience in semiconductors or materials
- Cleanroom experience or willingness to learn cleanroom protocols
- Familiarity with SiC, GaN, or other wide bandgap semiconductors
- Experience with device simulation tools (Sentaurus, Silvaco, etc.)
- Programming skills (Python, MATLAB) for data analysis
- Availability for 3-6 month internship commitment
