Radioisotope Technology & Safety Intern
About this position
NDB is seeking a Radioisotope Technology & Safety Intern to support radiation safety programs and radioisotope technology development for our nano diamond battery. This internship provides hands-on experience with radiation detection, safety protocols, and radioisotope applications in a cutting-edge clean energy startup. You will assist with radiation monitoring and contamination surveys, support safety training and documentation, learn radioisotope handling and measurement techniques, and help develop safety procedures and protocols. This position offers exposure to radiation protection, nuclear safety, and regulatory compliance. This is an excellent opportunity for students interested in health physics, radiation safety, or nuclear technology to gain practical experience. You'll work with radiation safety professionals and learn industry best practices while contributing to breakthrough energy technology.
Requirements
- Currently pursuing Bachelor's or Master's degree in Health Physics, Nuclear Engineering, or related field
- Completed coursework in radiation protection, nuclear physics, or radiation detection
- Strong academic record (3.0+ GPA preferred)
- Basic understanding of radiation safety principles and ALARA
- Familiarity with radiation detection instruments (survey meters, dosimeters)
- Excellent attention to detail and commitment to safety
- Strong communication and documentation skills
- Eligible for radiation safety training and clearances
Responsibilities
- Assist with radiation monitoring, surveys, and contamination control
- Support radiation safety officer with safety inspections and audits
- Help maintain radiation safety documentation and records
- Participate in radiation safety training and emergency drills
- Assist with dosimetry program and personnel monitoring
- Conduct literature research on radiation safety best practices
- Support development of safety procedures and standard operating procedures
- Help prepare safety reports and regulatory documentation
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior internship or research experience in radiation safety or health physics
- Familiarity with NRC regulations or radiation safety standards
- Coursework in radiation detection and measurement
- Experience with radiation safety equipment and instruments
- Interest in pursuing career as Radiation Safety Officer (RSO)
- Availability for 3-6 month internship commitment
