About this position

NDB seeks a Senior Lab Technician specializing in nuclear materials to support research and development of our nano diamond battery technology. This hands-on role involves working with radioisotopes, conducting experiments, operating specialized equipment, and supporting nuclear scientists and engineers. You will handle and process radioactive materials safely, operate nuclear research equipment (hot cells, glove boxes, radiation detectors), conduct radiochemical experiments and material characterization, and maintain laboratory equipment and safety protocols. This position requires expertise in radiation safety and nuclear material handling. This is an opportunity to work on cutting-edge nuclear technology in a state-of-the-art laboratory. Requirements

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Nuclear Technology, Chemistry, or related field
  • 5+ years of hands-on laboratory experience with radioactive materials
  • Strong knowledge of radiation safety principles and ALARA practices
  • Experience operating hot cells, glove boxes, and radiation detection equipment
  • Proficiency with radiochemical techniques and analytical instruments
  • Excellent attention to detail and laboratory documentation skills
  • Ability to follow strict safety protocols and regulatory procedures
  • Physical ability to work in laboratory environment (standing, lifting up to 50 lbs)

Responsibilities

  • Handle, prepare, and process radioactive materials following safety protocols
  • Operate hot cells, glove boxes, fume hoods, and other nuclear lab equipment
  • Conduct radiochemical experiments under direction of scientists and engineers
  • Perform material characterization using analytical instruments (spectrometers, etc.)
  • Maintain laboratory equipment, perform calibrations, and troubleshoot issues
  • Document experimental procedures, results, and safety observations
  • Monitor radiation levels and maintain contamination control
  • Manage radioactive waste disposal and laboratory inventory

Preferred Qualifications

  • Nuclear Technician certification or Radiation Protection Technologist (RPT) certification
  • Experience with beta-emitting isotopes (C-14, Ni-63, etc.)
  • Background in radiochemistry or nuclear fuel laboratories
  • Familiarity with NRC regulations and license conditions
  • Experience with SEM, XRD, or other materials characterization techniques
  • Prior work at DOE national labs or nuclear research facilities
