About this position
NDB seeks a Materials Scientist specializing in Silicon Carbide and hard materials to develop advanced materials and interfaces for our nano diamond battery technology. This role focuses on optimizing material properties, developing novel synthesis methods, and ensuring long-term material stability and performance. You will research and develop SiC substrates and diamond interfaces, optimize material properties for energy conversion efficiency, conduct materials characterization using advanced analytical techniques, and collaborate with semiconductor engineers on device integration. This position requires expertise in materials synthesis, characterization, and surface science. This is an exciting opportunity to work on cutting-edge materials research with immediate commercial applications. Requirements
- Ph.D. in Materials Science, Materials Engineering, or related field
- 6+ years of research experience with SiC, diamond, or hard materials
- Expertise in materials characterization (XRD, SEM, TEM, AFM, Raman spectroscopy)
- Strong background in crystal growth, thin film deposition, or materials synthesis
- Experience with surface chemistry and interface engineering
- Proficiency with materials simulation tools (VASP, Quantum ESPRESSO, etc.)
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
- Strong publication record in materials science journals
Responsibilities
- Research and develop SiC substrates and diamond-SiC interfaces
- Optimize material properties for maximum energy conversion efficiency
- Conduct materials characterization using XRD, SEM, TEM, AFM, and spectroscopy
- Develop novel synthesis and processing methods for hard materials
- Study material degradation mechanisms and develop mitigation strategies
- Collaborate with semiconductor engineers on device fabrication and integration
- Design experiments and analyze data to validate theoretical models
- Publish research findings and present at technical conferences
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with CVD diamond growth or polycrystalline diamond synthesis
- Background in radiation-resistant materials or nuclear materials science
- Expertise in SiC epitaxy or bulk SiC crystal growth
- Familiarity with betavoltaic devices or energy harvesting materials
- Experience with computational materials science and DFT calculations
- International collaboration experience on materials research projects
