Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Officer
About this position
NDB is seeking an Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Officer to establish and maintain comprehensive safety programs for our nuclear technology operations. This critical role ensures worker safety, environmental protection, and regulatory compliance across all laboratory, manufacturing, and operational activities. You will develop and implement EHS policies and procedures, conduct safety training and inspections, manage radiation safety and nuclear material handling protocols, and ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, NRC, and other regulatory requirements. This position requires expertise in occupational health, radiation safety, and environmental compliance. This is a vital role in a company working with advanced nuclear materials. You'll be responsible for creating a world-class safety culture while enabling breakthrough technology development.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Environmental Health, Safety, Industrial Hygiene, or related field
- 6+ years of experience in EHS management, preferably in nuclear or chemical industries
- Strong knowledge of OSHA, EPA, NRC, and DOT regulations
- Experience with radiation safety programs and nuclear material handling
- Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) preferred
- Experience developing safety training programs and conducting audits
- Excellent communication and training skills
- Ability to work with radioactive materials (radiation safety training required)
Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive EHS policies and procedures
- Conduct regular safety inspections, audits, and risk assessments
- Manage radiation safety program including dosimetry, monitoring, and ALARA compliance
- Provide safety training to employees on nuclear material handling and laboratory safety
- Investigate incidents and accidents, and implement corrective actions
- Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, NRC, and other applicable regulations
- Manage hazardous waste disposal and environmental monitoring programs
- Serve as primary liaison with regulatory agencies for EHS matters
Preferred Qualifications
- Radiation Safety Officer (RSO) certification or eligibility
- Experience with NRC licensing and inspection processes
- Background in nuclear facility operations or radiochemistry labs
- Familiarity with ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 management systems
- Experience implementing safety culture programs at growing companies
- Master's degree in relevant field
