Requirements

  • Ph.D. or Master's degree in Nuclear Engineering, Nuclear Physics, or related field
  • 8+ years of experience in nuclear reactor design or nuclear fuel systems
  • Deep expertise in reactor physics, neutronics, and radiation transport
  • Experience with nuclear safety analysis and licensing (NRC regulatory knowledge)
  • Proficiency with nuclear simulation tools (MCNP, SCALE, Serpent, or similar)
  • Strong understanding of radioisotope decay chains and energy conversion
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • U.S. citizenship or ability to obtain DOE security clearance (preferred)

Responsibilities

  • Design and optimize micro-scale nuclear power systems and radioisotope configurations
  • Develop nuclear safety analysis reports and shielding calculations
  • Model neutronics and radiation transport using Monte Carlo simulations
  • Collaborate with materials scientists on radioisotope containment and encapsulation
  • Ensure compliance with NRC regulations and nuclear safety standards
  • Develop test protocols and safety procedures for radioisotope handling
  • Work with regulatory team on licensing strategy and documentation
  • Present technical findings to executives, investors, and regulatory bodies

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with radioisotope power systems (RTGs) or nuclear batteries
  • Background in small modular reactors (SMRs) or microreactors
  • Familiarity with betavoltaic or radioisotope energy conversion systems
  • Experience working with DOE national laboratories
  • Published research in nuclear engineering or reactor physics journals
