About this position
NDB is seeking an experienced Independent Board Director with deep expertise in advanced manufacturing and operations to provide strategic oversight and guidance. This unpaid board position offers equity compensation and the opportunity to shape the future of clean energy technology. The ideal candidate brings extensive experience scaling manufacturing operations in highly regulated industries, particularly in advanced materials, semiconductors, or nuclear technology. As a Board Director, you will attend quarterly board meetings, serve on relevant committees, and provide strategic counsel to executive leadership on manufacturing scale-up, operational excellence, quality systems, and supply chain resilience. This role is critical as NDB transitions from R&D to commercial manufacturing. This is a prestigious opportunity to contribute to breakthrough clean energy technology while working alongside industry leaders in nuclear technology, energy, finance, and regulatory compliance.
Requirements
- 15+ years of senior leadership experience in manufacturing operations
- Proven track record scaling advanced manufacturing from pilot to commercial production
- Deep expertise in semiconductor fabrication, advanced materials, or nuclear manufacturing
- Experience with highly regulated manufacturing environments (FDA, NRC, ISO, etc.)
- Board-level or C-suite experience in manufacturing or operations
- Strong understanding of quality management systems and continuous improvement
- Ability to travel to Chicago quarterly for board meetings
- No conflicts of interest with competing energy or battery technologies
Responsibilities
- Attend and actively participate in quarterly board meetings (in-person or remote)
- Serve on Operations & Manufacturing Committee
- Provide strategic guidance on manufacturing scale-up and facility design
- Review and advise on manufacturing cost optimization and efficiency improvements
- Evaluate operational risks and mitigation strategies
- Support executive team in supplier relationship and supply chain decisions
- Monitor manufacturing KPIs and operational performance metrics
- Leverage industry network to identify partnership and talent opportunities
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with clean energy, nuclear, or semiconductor manufacturing preferred
- Prior board service at growth-stage technology companies
- International manufacturing and supply chain experience
- Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing, or operational excellence certifications
- Network in advanced manufacturing and materials science communities
