CAD/CAM & Simulation Intern
About this position
NDB seeks a CAD/CAM & Simulation Intern to support mechanical design, computer-aided manufacturing, and engineering simulation for our nano diamond battery technology. This internship provides hands-on experience with professional CAD software, FEA analysis, and manufacturing design. You will assist with 3D CAD modeling and assembly design, support FEA simulations and analysis, help create manufacturing drawings and documentation, and learn CAM programming for CNC machining. This position offers exposure to mechanical design, simulation tools, and design for manufacturability. This is an excellent opportunity for engineering students to gain practical CAD/CAM experience while working on cutting-edge energy technology. You'll develop professional engineering design skills applicable across industries.
Requirements
- Currently pursuing Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
- Completed coursework in CAD, engineering graphics, or mechanical design
- Strong academic record (3.0+ GPA preferred)
- Proficiency with at least one CAD software (SolidWorks, CATIA, Inventor, etc.)
- Basic understanding of engineering drawings and GD&T
- Strong spatial reasoning and 3D visualization skills
- Attention to detail and commitment to quality
- Good communication and teamwork abilities
Responsibilities
- Create 3D CAD models of mechanical components and assemblies
- Assist with FEA simulations (stress, thermal, vibration analysis)
- Generate engineering drawings with proper dimensions and tolerances
- Support design optimization and design for manufacturability reviews
- Learn CAM programming for CNC machining operations
- Help maintain CAD library and standardize design templates
- Participate in design reviews and provide input on improvements
- Document design changes and maintain organized project files
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior internship or project experience with CAD software
- Familiarity with FEA tools (ANSYS, COMSOL, SolidWorks Simulation)
- Experience with CAM software (Mastercam, Fusion 360 CAM, etc.)
- Knowledge of manufacturing processes (machining, 3D printing, etc.)
- Strong interest in mechanical design and engineering
- Availability for 3-6 month internship commitment
