NDB is seeking a Senior Radiochemist with expertise in radioisotope purification, processing, and handling to develop scalable methods for producing high-purity radioisotopes for our nano diamond battery technology. This role is essential to transitioning from laboratory-scale production to commercial manufacturing. You will design and optimize radioisotope purification processes, develop safe handling and processing protocols, scale up production methods, and ensure compliance with nuclear safety and environmental regulations. This position requires deep expertise in radiochemistry, separation science, and nuclear material handling. Requirements

  • Ph.D. in Radiochemistry, Nuclear Chemistry, or closely related field
  • 7+ years of hands-on experience with radioisotope processing and purification
  • Expertise in radiochemical separation techniques (ion exchange, solvent extraction, etc.)
  • Experience with hot cell operations and remote handling equipment
  • Strong knowledge of radiation safety, contamination control, and waste management
  • Familiarity with NRC and DOT regulations for radioactive material handling
  • Proficiency with analytical chemistry techniques (ICP-MS, gamma spectroscopy, etc.)
  • U.S. citizenship or ability to obtain DOE/NRC clearances for radioactive material work

Responsibilities

  • Design and optimize radioisotope purification and processing methods
  • Develop scalable production protocols for high-purity radioisotopes
  • Operate and maintain radiochemistry laboratory equipment and hot cells
  • Conduct radiochemical analyses to verify isotope purity and characterization
  • Develop safe handling procedures and contamination control protocols
  • Collaborate with nuclear engineers and physicists on isotope integration
  • Ensure compliance with NRC, EPA, and OSHA regulations
  • Manage radioactive waste disposal and environmental monitoring

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Carbon-14, Nickel-63, or other beta-emitting isotope production
  • Background in radiopharmaceutical production or medical isotope processing
  • Expertise in nuclear fuel cycle chemistry or spent fuel reprocessing
  • Experience scaling up radiochemical processes from lab to pilot scale
  • Familiarity with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) for radioactive materials
  • Published research in radiochemistry or nuclear chemistry journals
