About this position

NDB seeks a Nuclear Fuel Development Intern to support research on nuclear fuel configurations and energy optimization for our nano diamond battery technology. This internship offers hands-on experience with nuclear fuel design, reactor physics calculations, and energy conversion systems. You will assist with nuclear fuel configuration modeling, support reactor physics calculations and simulations, help analyze radioisotope energy output and efficiency, and conduct research on nuclear fuel cycle technologies. This position provides exposure to nuclear engineering, fuel design, and advanced energy systems. This is an exceptional opportunity for students passionate about nuclear energy to work on breakthrough nuclear battery technology. You'll gain practical experience with nuclear fuel concepts while contributing to clean energy innovation.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing Bachelor's or Master's degree in Nuclear Engineering or related field
  • Completed coursework in reactor physics, nuclear materials, or nuclear fuel cycles
  • Strong academic record (3.0+ GPA preferred)
  • Basic understanding of nuclear fission, decay processes, and neutronics
  • Familiarity with nuclear simulation tools (MCNP, SCALE, etc.) preferred
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and data analysis
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Responsibilities

  • Assist nuclear engineers with fuel configuration modeling and optimization
  • Support reactor physics calculations and neutronics simulations
  • Analyze radioisotope decay data and energy output calculations
  • Help evaluate different fuel geometries and material compositions
  • Conduct literature reviews on nuclear fuel technologies and innovations
  • Prepare technical reports and presentations on findings
  • Participate in design reviews and technical team meetings
  • Document calculations and maintain organized project files

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior internship or research experience in nuclear engineering
  • Proficiency with MCNP, SCALE, Serpent, or other nuclear codes
  • Coursework in nuclear reactor design or nuclear fuel management
  • Experience with MATLAB, Python, or other programming languages
  • Strong interest in advanced nuclear energy systems
  • Availability for 3-6 month internship commitment
