About this position

NDB is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer specializing in thermal systems to design and optimize heat management solutions for our nano diamond battery technology. This role focuses on thermal system design including Brayton cycles, heat pipes, cooling systems, encapsulation, and safety design. You will design thermal management systems for battery heat dissipation, develop cooling solutions (heat pipes, phase-change systems, active cooling), conduct thermal analysis and testing, and design safe encapsulation and containment systems. This position requires expertise in thermodynamics, heat transfer, and mechanical system design. Join a team working on breakthrough energy technology that requires innovative thermal engineering solutions. This is an opportunity to apply advanced thermal engineering principles to next-generation nuclear battery systems.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
  • 7+ years of experience in thermal systems design and heat transfer
  • Strong background in thermodynamics, heat transfer, and fluid mechanics
  • Experience designing heat pipes, heat sinks, or advanced cooling systems
  • Proficiency with thermal simulation tools (ANSYS Fluent, Icepak, Thermal Desktop)
  • Familiarity with Brayton cycles or other thermodynamic power cycles
  • Experience with thermal testing and instrumentation
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

Responsibilities

  • Design thermal management systems for nano diamond battery heat dissipation
  • Develop cooling solutions including heat pipes, phase-change cooling, and active systems
  • Conduct thermal analysis, CFD simulations, and heat transfer calculations
  • Design safe encapsulation and containment systems for nuclear materials
  • Develop thermal test protocols and validate designs experimentally
  • Optimize thermal system performance for efficiency and reliability
  • Collaborate with nuclear engineers on safety and shielding integration
  • Generate technical documentation and thermal design reports

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with nuclear or radioisotope thermal systems (RTGs)
  • Background in cryogenic systems or extreme temperature applications
  • Expertise in micro-scale heat transfer or MEMS thermal devices
  • Familiarity with spacecraft thermal control or aerospace thermal systems
  • Experience with vacuum systems or hermetic sealing
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license in mechanical engineering

What We Offer

  • Competitive salary: $130,000 - $185,000 based on experience
  • Significant equity stake in clean energy innovation company
  • Comprehensive health insurance (medical, dental, vision)
  • 401(k) retirement plan with 4% company match
  • 4 weeks paid vacation + holidays
