Dr. Harriet Story
Chemist
Harriet has an MSci degree in Natural Sciences from UCL (Major: Organic Chemistry, Minor: Biomedical Sciences), wherein she achieved the highest average module mark in her cohort during her third and fourth year of study. Harriet carried out her master's research project at Cancer Research Technology (CRT), the commercial arm of Cancer Research UK, on the synthesis of hypoxia-inducible factor (HIF) inhibitor analogs for target identification. For her master’s project, she was awarded two prizes for the most distinguished work in both organic chemistry and biological chemistry. Harriet went on to do her Ph.D. in chemistry at UCL. Her project was on the design of novel liposomal theranostic agents for simultaneous treatment and imaging of tumors, utilizing an emerging MRI contrast mechanism called Chemical Exchange Saturation Transfer (CEST). The project incorporated a range of interdisciplinary subjects and techniques including organic synthesis of small molecules, lipids, and peptides, a nanoparticle formulation, characterization, MR imaging and oncology. She has since worked as a Senior Associate at Imperial Innovations helping PIs, clinicians etc. to develop innovative ideas and cutting-edge research towards commercial fruition, thereby gaining key insights into the requirements for healthcare ventures to succeed.
