About this position

NDB seeks a Mechanical & Thermal Systems Engineering Intern to support thermal management and mechanical design for our nano diamond battery technology. This internship provides hands-on experience with heat transfer analysis, thermal system design, CAD modeling, and mechanical engineering in a cutting-edge energy startup. You will assist with thermal analysis and heat transfer calculations, support CAD modeling and mechanical design, help with cooling system design and optimization, and participate in testing and validation of thermal systems. This position offers exposure to thermal engineering, mechanical design, and energy systems. This is an excellent opportunity for mechanical engineering students to apply classroom knowledge to real-world energy technology. You'll work on challenging thermal management problems for next-generation nuclear batteries.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
  • Completed coursework in thermodynamics, heat transfer, or thermal systems
  • Strong academic record (3.0+ GPA preferred)
  • Basic proficiency with CAD software (SolidWorks, CATIA, etc.)
  • Understanding of heat transfer principles and thermal analysis
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and engineering calculations
  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities

Responsibilities

  • Assist mechanical engineers with thermal analysis and heat transfer calculations
  • Support CAD modeling of mechanical components and thermal systems
  • Help design cooling solutions (heat pipes, heat sinks, enclosures)
  • Conduct thermal simulations using CFD or FEA software
  • Participate in thermal testing and data collection
  • Create technical drawings and documentation
  • Research thermal management technologies and best practices
  • Present findings and recommendations to engineering team

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior internship or co-op experience in mechanical engineering
  • Proficiency with thermal simulation tools (ANSYS, COMSOL, etc.)
  • Experience with thermal testing or laboratory work
  • Familiarity with heat pipe technology or phase-change cooling
  • Strong interest in energy systems and thermal engineering
  • Availability for 3-6 month internship commitment
